Intent
With Fully Lucid I seek to re-envision modern faith based art and how it can be implemented. Obviously through fashion is only one facet of that, but by making designs that push the boundaries of what is expected of "religious art" I am hoping to inspire others to not only live their faith more boldly, but also their creativity. I believe that other brands that are more outwardly and obviously Christian in their designs are wonderful and serve to be "walking billboards" of the faith much of the time. But with Fully Lucid, the goal is not to be a walking billboard, instead it is meant to work for both religious and non religious alike. I aim for most of the designs to be abstractedly religious enough where non believers would be able to and happy to represent the brand simply because of the art and product; but have each and every design be fully inspired by and filled with religious meaning. Whether that be coming from tradition, beliefs, practice, culture, etc...
Matthew 6:1-7
Beware of practicing your righteousness before others in order to be seen by them, for then you have no reward from your Father in Heaven. So, whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret with reward you.
When I began thinking about making a Christian clothing brand there were two things that I wanted to do differently than all of the other ones that I had seen.
Firstly, I wanted to focus much more on the actual art and designs for the apparel. I found that many (not all) of the popular Christian clothing brands at the time had relatively uninspired designs that mainly leaned on the words or ideas being presented to make the apparel more appealing. I also found that many of the designs looked very similar across many brands. And, with the advent of AI art I have seen more and more brands in general begin to use it to make designs for their apparel. So, with my focus on art being equal to the messages being conveyed, I also want to make sure to only highlight real modern Christian artists, and denounce AI generated designs.
Secondly, the fact that so much of the Christian brands and designs that I saw on clothing was incredibly obvious and in your face always kind of turned me off from them. Not to say that this way of presenting your faith more publicly is wrong or even bad, it is just never what I felt was the best way to utilize this particular medium. Matthew 6:1-7 has always been a verse that I've held closely to my heart; talking about the outwardness and hypocrisy of the teachers of the time, and how it is better to do all of these things in secret. To "not let your left hand know what your right is doing." So with Fully Lucid I aim to create designs with deeply Christian concepts and ideals that might be harder for those who don't already know of these teachings and traditions to pick up on; but make the designs unique enough where enough intrigue may be brought to the designs where conversations are still able to begin.
